The past several months have brought many new books into our Church Library – both adult and children’s. Stop by the Library to peruse what’s new and available for check-out.
A table display of Easter books for children is featured during the month of April. Surrounding the Easter Bunny in the center of the table are numerous books of the Resurrection of Christ and other holiday stories.
To augment out book collection, our Church Library has also recently received many new DVDs and Videocassettes. We now have 44 titles that are also available for check-out. A few of our new titles include:
Paul Bielich recently conducted a Library Orientation to all of our Church-School children to acquaint them with our Church Library and the materials it contains. For the Kindergarten class he sported his “magic story hat” and read them a story. A few weeks later Paul was surprised as the Kindergarten Class marched into the Library one Sunday morning and presented him with a beautiful hand-made thank you card which they all signed and which Aleks Pavlovich artistically drew saying “Cika Paul – Thank You We are all Reading!”
The Church – School children continue to enjoy our Library goldfish. Named “Zlata” she continues to amuse and delight our children and adults alike.
The Library display case this month features an exhibit of Serbian folk costumes.
In an effort to acquaint Church-School and Cultural Program children with our Church Library and to encourage its use, our Library kicked-off a reading initiative which began March 4th and will continue until the closing of the school year in June. Called “Ravanica Kids Read” the initiative is summarized as follows:
Children must register in our Church Library
Books read must be checked-out of our Church Library
When children finish reading a book, they will tell something about the book to the librarian on duty in the Library
After reviewing the book with the librarian, a star will be placed beside the child’s name on our “Ravanica Kids Read” chart
Throughout the program, children will receive prizes for the number of books read as follows: Signing up – Candy bar, One book read – Bookmark and pencil, Two books read – “I love to Read” ribbon, Three books read - “Reading is Cool water bottle, Four books read – Small trophy (boys), “Awesome Reader pin (girls), Five or more books read – a gift certificate to a Video/Bookstore
Everyone participating in the program will also receive a “Certificate of Participation”. The program thus far has met with a most enthusiastic response and children are constantly visiting the Library both on Sunday and Friday nights!
To move our Church Library into the 21st century, we are grateful for a recent donation of a computer. Future plans call for installation of the Internet as well as the conversion of our card catalog to an online catalog with computer check-out of books. We are hopeful for the donation of another computer so our Church-School children will have computer access in the Library!
Our Church Library is always grateful to receive monetary donations. We ask that you remember our Church Library with a contribution.
